Microblading

What is Microblading?

When you've tried every pencil, powder, pigment, gel, and stencil at Sephora and your brows are still off fleek, microblading—a more permanent solution to thin brows—is the last-ditch-effort treatment that promises to change your brow life!

Microblading is a form of tattooing. But, unlike a regular tattoo, microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine. Hair-like strokes are drawn with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows. Even though it's not as deep as the regular tattoo, it's still a tattoo because pigment is implanted under the skin.

Is Microblading for everyone?

  • You have to be off Accutane for 1 year. NO Exceptions!

  • If you have oily skin, your results WILL appear softer (eyebrows can look solid) in appearance and may require additional procedures.

  • Dark Skin types - please note that your permanent makeup will not appear as bold as lighter skin types. (Indian, African American, Filipino, etc.)

  • If there are any blemishes, pimples, active cold sores, irritation of the skin of any kind, moles or other skin imperfections in or around the area of the procedure, We WILL NOT be able to do the procedure until the blemish or area of concern is gone or the mole is removed and healed.

PERMANENT MAKEUP WILL NOT BE PERFORMED IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR NURSING!!!!

How to prepare for your appointment:

Do NOT take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen unless medically necessary, 48-72 hrs prior to your procedure. Tylenol is fine.

Do not work out the day of the procedure as the body heat expands the pores.

If you drink a lot, take aspirin, or use retinol, stop one week before your treatment. Retinol makes your skin thin and then you bleed a little more, Avoid blood thinners, aspirin, caffeine and alcohol.

Does it hurt?

It doesn't hurt (too much)

Pain is relative. Some feel more than others. Overall it feels like little scratches. You feel it, but it's not unbearable. It's not like having a baby. Clients brows are prepped with topical numbing cream and topped up throughout the process to dull the discomfort. For some the sound is often the worse part. However, having Microblading while on your menstrual cycle can make you hyper-sensitive at the procedure site.

Microblading takes time

Two hours are scheduled for each new client consultation to avoid any rushing. It takes time to discuss and agree on your new brow shape and colour.

Microblading/ 3D Embroidery is generally a 2-step process- usually 4-6 weeks apart. It is very important to complete 2 visits.

Step 1: The initial procedure takes 2.5 hours approximately. During this time, a consultation is done, a colour tone is chosen, and the initial outline of the procedure area is drawn on for the client to approve. Once the client is satisfied with the basic shape and symmetry, the area is then traced over, then the permanent pigment is applied with a hand-held tool and not a machine.

The end result will depend on 50% pigment and 50% healing. We all heal differently, and what works on one client may not be effective on another. This is why a second visit is so important to correct any irregularities in colour tones and makes the look permanent.

Step 2: The second stage of the treatment is the touch-up, and takes 1-2 hours approximately. This is done 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure because it takes time for the pigment to settle in the skin. It is IMPERATIVE to complete the touch-up treatment, as without it, it will be a job half done and the results will not be optimum. Colour will have faded significantly in these 4-6 weeks as the skin heals, peels, and fades. The touch-up gives the client an opportunity to get used to the initial finish before a final touch-up consolidates the pigment into the skin, thus preventing fading.

Step 3:

Occasionally a third visit is necessary for certain clients, 30 days later again. This is not uncommon.

Aftercare is essential

That means protecting freshly bladed brows from all moisture–no sweaty workouts or washing your face with water. Some clients experience itching and redness during the first week, which Vaseline, lubriderm, or coconut oil can alleviate. Brows will look slightly darker at first, but the color will fade 30 to 40 percent. An initial 12 hour dry healing to allow the skin to really absorb the pigment is recomended.

Overall your brows will look great right away and you wont have to hide. Slight redness and mild swelling is normal, freshly done brows will look similar to after wax treatment brows.

How long does it last?

Results can last up to three years. Depending on your skin and lifestyle, this varies from person to person. A colour refresh is recommended on average from 12-18 months after your initial microblading procedure. More frequent touch-ups may be required where a client chose a soft lighter shade initially, or clients who did not follow after-care advice regarding sunscreen, etc.
